Red Hat Security Advisory: OpenShift Container Platform 4.22.17 bug fix and security update
Severity
Important
Notes
Topic: Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform release 4.22.17 is now available with updates to packages and images that fix several bugs and add enhancements. This release includes a security update for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.22. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact of Important. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability from the CVE link(s) in the References section.
Details: Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat's cloud computing Kubernetes application platform solution designed for on-premise or private cloud deployments. This advisory contains the container images for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.22.17. See the following advisory for the RPM packages for this release: https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:74427 Space precludes documenting all of the container images in this advisory. See the following Release Notes documentation, which will be updated shortly for this release, for details about these changes: https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.22/html/release_notes/ Security Fix(es): * libevent: Libevent: HTTP header handling bugs create risk of access control bypass. (CVE-2026-63385) * kernel: xfrm: ah6: validate routing header segments_left (CVE-2026-80844) * kernel: net: tun: bound receive headroom (CVE-2026-81000) * unbound: Unbound: Heap buffer overflow via malicious DNSSEC response (CVE-2026-81634) * unbound: Unbound: Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in CNAME Synthesis (CVE-2026-82717) * kernel: scsi: qla2xxx: Bound rsp_info_len to avoid OOB sense-data read (CVE-2026-89846) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section. All OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images when they are available in the appropriate release channel. To check for available updates, use the OpenShift CLI (oc) or web console. Instructions for upgrading a cluster are available at https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.22/html-single/updating_clusters/index#updating-cluster-cli.

A flaw was found in libevent. The evhttp_decode_uri_internal function in http.c decodes percent-encoded %00 bytes into literal NUL characters without rejecting them, allowing an attacker to craft a URI such as /admin/secret%00.jpg where extension-based access checks see .jpg but the server processes /admin/secret, bypassing path-based access controls. Additionally, evhttp_header_is_valid_value accepts obsolete HTTP header line folding (CRLF followed by SP/HT), which RFC 9112 states new implementations should reject, creating a header injection vector in proxy chains where the frontend rejects obs-fold but libevent accepts it. This could lead to access control bypass, header injection, or request smuggling.

Threats
Impact Important

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's xfrm subsystem, specifically within the AH6 (Authentication Header for IPv6) module. The `ipv6_rearrange_rthdr()` function does not properly validate the `segments_left` field in routing headers when processing raw IPv6 HDRINCL packets. This oversight allows an attacker to craft a malicious packet that can cause an out-of-bounds memory access, potentially leading to memory corruption.

CWE-805 - Buffer Access with Incorrect Length Value
Affected products
Fixed 4 products, the same list as for CVE-2026-63385
Threats
Impact Low

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's TUN/TAP driver. An integer underflow vulnerability exists in the tun_get_user() function when processing oversized headroom requests. This can occur if Open vSwitch (OVS) propagates an excessively large headroom request to the TUN or TAP device. Successful exploitation could lead to memory corruption, where network packet data is written outside its intended buffer, potentially causing a denial of service or other system instability.

CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds Write
Affected products
Fixed 4 products, the same list as for CVE-2026-63385
Threats
Impact Low

A flaw was found in Unbound. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a heap buffer overflow during the processing of DNSSEC responses. By sending a specially crafted DNSSEC response, a malicious server or an attacker tampering with network traffic can trigger this flaw. This could lead to a denial of service, making the Unbound service unavailable.

CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
Affected products
Fixed 4 products, the same list as for CVE-2026-63385
Threats
Impact Important

A flaw was found in Unbound. Improper handling of buffer positions and compression pointers in Unbound's CNAME synthesis allows a remote attacker to corrupt heap memory via upstream DNS responses. This vulnerability can result in a denial of service (DoS) or, under specific conditions, remote code execution (RCE).

CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds Write
Affected products
Fixed 4 products, the same list as for CVE-2026-63385
Threats
Impact Important

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's `scsi: qla2xxx` driver. A remote attacker, by sending a specially crafted Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP) response, could cause an integer underflow. This underflow leads to an out-of-bounds read when handling sense data, potentially disclosing sensitive memory information from the kernel's heap.

CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds Read
Affected products
Fixed 4 products, the same list as for CVE-2026-63385
Threats
Impact Important

This could lead to access control bypass, header injection, or request smuggling.",
