CERTFR-2026-AVI-1065
Vulnerability from certfr_avis - Published: 2026-08-21 - Updated: 2026-08-21
De multiples vulnérabilités ont été découvertes dans le noyau Linux de Red Hat. Certaines d'entre elles permettent à un attaquant de provoquer une exécution de code arbitraire, une élévation de privilèges et un déni de service à distance.

Title
net: ieee802154: do not leave a dangling sk pointer in ieee802154_create()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: ieee802154: do not leave a dangling sk pointer in ieee802154_create()
sock_init_data() attaches the allocated sk object to the provided sock
object. If ieee802154_create() fails later, the allocated sk object is
freed, but the dangling pointer remains in the provided sock object, which
may allow use-after-free.
Clear the sk pointer in the sock object on error.

Despite the subsystem being a wireless PAN stack, the defect itself is in socket setup, not in frame processing.
AC:H - The dangling pointer is only produced when `sk->sk_prot->hash()` or `->init()` returns non-zero, but `raw_hash()`, `dgram_hash()` and `dgram_init()` all unconditionally `return 0` in every affected version (2.6.31–6.12) and the raw proto has no `.init`, so the error branch is unreachable and the attacker cannot influence it.
PR:L - Creating a `SOCK_DGRAM` AF_IEEE802154 socket needs no capability at all, so any unprivileged local user reaches `ieee802154_create()`; note the `!net_eq(net, &init_net)` guard means the call must be made in the initial netns, so user namespaces do not lower this further but also are not needed.
UI:N - The attacker performs the whole sequence with a single `socket()` syscall from its own process. No victim action or interaction is involved.
S:U - The freed `struct sock`/`struct dgram_sock` and the stale `sock->sk` reference both live entirely within the kernel's own security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - Per the use-after-free rubric, a stale `sock->sk` reference to a freed `dgram_sock` in the kmalloc-general caches would let an attacker reclaim the slab and read back attacker-shaped or leftover kernel data through subsequent socket operations.
I:H - The same dangling reference would allow heap spraying of the reclaimed slot, giving control over function-pointer-bearing fields (`sk_prot`, `sk_destruct`, `sk_wq`) and thus a control-flow-hijack primitive rather than a mere data corruption.
A:H - Any dereference of the freed `sock->sk` would fault or corrupt the socket hash lists, producing an oops or panic; the rubric treats all use-after-free conditions as high availability impact even when only partially exploited."

Title
mm/slub: avoid accessing metadata when pointer is invalid in object_err()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm/slub: avoid accessing metadata when pointer is invalid in object_err()
object_err() reports details of an object for further debugging, such as
the freelist pointer, redzone, etc. However, if the pointer is invalid,
attempting to access object metadata can lead to a crash since it does
not point to a valid object.
One known path to the crash is when alloc_consistency_checks()
determines the pointer to the allocated object is invalid because of a
freelist corruption, and calls object_err() to report it. The debug code
should report and handle the corruption gracefully and not crash in the
process.
In case the pointer is NULL or check_valid_pointer() returns false for
the pointer, only print the pointer value and skip accessing metadata.

The debug code
should report and handle the corruption gracefully and not crash in the
process.

In case the pointer is NULL or check_valid_pointer() returns false for
the pointer, only print the pointer value and skip accessing metadata.
AV:L - The vulnerable code is in the SLUB allocator's debug reporting path, reached from `___slab_alloc` when a local attacker's heap-corruption primitive (slab overflow, double free, or UAF) has poisoned a freelist pointer; no remote or adjacent network input reaches `object_err()` directly.
AC:L - The attacker who corrupts the freelist fully controls the invalid pointer value and can force `check_valid_pointer()` to fail deterministically on the very next allocation from that slab, triggering the wild dereference reliably and repeatedly; on any deployment booted with `slab_debug`/`CONFIG_SLUB_DEBUG_ON` (Android userdebug, distro debug kernels, embedded and automotive bring-up images, CI fleets) no attacker-uncontrollable condition remains.
PR:L - Reaching the slab allocator requires only that the attacker run code that allocates kernel memory, and the freelist-corrupting primitives that lead here are routinely reachable by unprivileged local users through ordinary syscalls; no capability check exists anywhere on the path from `kmem_cache_alloc()` to `object_err()`.
UI:N - The attacker triggers the corruption and the subsequent allocation from its own process; no victim action, mount, or file open is required.
S:U - The faulting read and its consequences are entirely within the kernel's own security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - `print_trailer()` hex-dumps memory at the attacker-influenced pointer — `print_section()` on "Redzone", "Object" (up to PAGE_SIZE bytes), and "Padding", plus `struct track` contents and `get_freepointer()` — straight into the kernel log, so an attacker who chooses the freepointer value (plaintext absent `CONFIG_SLAB_FREELIST_HARDENED`) obtains an out-of-bounds read of arbitrary kernel memory disclosing pointers, canaries, and secrets.
I:N - Every access on the buggy path (`print_tracking`, `get_freepointer`, `print_section`) is a read; the `set_freepointer()` fixups in `check_object()`/`on_freelist()` operate on already-validated pointers, so this defect yields no kernel write primitive of its own.
A:H - Dereferencing the invalid pointer in `print_tracking()`/`print_section()` faults on unmapped or non-canonical memory, oopsing the kernel from inside the allocator slow path while holding `n->list_lock`, which is an unrecoverable crash rather than the graceful corruption report the code intended."

Kernel: can:bcm: arbitrary kernel code execution leading to escalate privileges
Summary
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel in net/can/bcm.c in can: bcm, where an unprivileged local user can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code within the kernel, which leads to a local privilege escalation (LPE). This allows the attacker to gain root privileges and take full control of the affected system.

Title
scsi: core: Wake up the error handler when final completions race against each other
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
scsi: core: Wake up the error handler when final completions race against each other
The fragile ordering between marking commands completed or failed so
that the error handler only wakes when the last running command
completes or times out has race conditions. These race conditions can
cause the SCSI layer to fail to wake the error handler, leaving I/O
through the SCSI host stuck as the error state cannot advance.
First, there is an memory ordering issue within scsi_dec_host_busy().
The write which clears SCMD_STATE_INFLIGHT may be reordered with reads
counting in scsi_host_busy(). While the local CPU will see its own
write, reordering can allow other CPUs in scsi_dec_host_busy() or
scsi_eh_inc_host_failed() to see a raised busy count, causing no CPU to
see a host busy equal to the host_failed count.
This race condition can be prevented with a memory barrier on the error
path to force the write to be visible before counting host busy
commands.
Second, there is a general ordering issue with scsi_eh_inc_host_failed(). By
counting busy commands before incrementing host_failed, it can race with a
final command in scsi_dec_host_busy(), such that scsi_dec_host_busy() does
not see host_failed incremented but scsi_eh_inc_host_failed() counts busy
commands before SCMD_STATE_INFLIGHT is cleared by scsi_dec_host_busy(),
resulting in neither waking the error handler task.
This needs the call to scsi_host_busy() to be moved after host_failed is
incremented to close the race condition.

This needs the call to scsi_host_busy() to be moved after host_failed is
incremented to close the race condition."

Title
net: atm: fix crash due to unvalidated vcc pointer in sigd_send()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: atm: fix crash due to unvalidated vcc pointer in sigd_send()
Reproducer available at [1].
The ATM send path (sendmsg -> vcc_sendmsg -> sigd_send) reads the vcc
pointer from msg->vcc and uses it directly without any validation. This
pointer comes from userspace via sendmsg() and can be arbitrarily forged:
int fd = socket(AF_ATMSVC, SOCK_DGRAM, 0);
ioctl(fd, ATMSIGD_CTRL); // become ATM signaling daemon
struct msghdr msg = { .msg_iov = &iov, ... };
*(unsigned long *)(buf + 4) = 0xdeadbeef; // fake vcc pointer
sendmsg(fd, &msg, 0); // kernel dereferences 0xdeadbeef
In normal operation, the kernel sends the vcc pointer to the signaling
daemon via sigd_enq() when processing operations like connect(), bind(),
or listen(). The daemon is expected to return the same pointer when
responding. However, a malicious daemon can send arbitrary pointer values.
Fix this by introducing find_get_vcc() which validates the pointer by
searching through vcc_hash (similar to how sigd_close() iterates over
all VCCs), and acquires a reference via sock_hold() if found.
Since struct atm_vcc embeds struct sock as its first member, they share
the same lifetime. Therefore using sock_hold/sock_put is sufficient to
keep the vcc alive while it is being used.
Note that there may be a race with sigd_close() which could mark the vcc
with various flags (e.g., ATM_VF_RELEASED) after find_get_vcc() returns.
However, sock_hold() guarantees the memory remains valid, so this race
only affects the logical state, not memory safety.

This
pointer comes from userspace via sendmsg() and can be arbitrarily forged:

int fd = socket(AF_ATMSVC, SOCK_DGRAM, 0);
ioctl(fd, ATMSIGD_CTRL); // become ATM signaling daemon
struct msghdr msg = { .msg_iov = &iov, ... };

[1]: https://gist.github.com/mrpre/1ba5949c45529c511152e2f4c755b0f3"

Title
fs/smb/client: fix out-of-bounds read in cifs_sanitize_prepath
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
fs/smb/client: fix out-of-bounds read in cifs_sanitize_prepath
When cifs_sanitize_prepath is called with an empty string or a string
containing only delimiters (e.g., "/"), the current logic attempts to
check *(cursor2 - 1) before cursor2 has advanced. This results in an
out-of-bounds read.
This patch adds an early exit check after stripping prepended
delimiters. If no path content remains, the function returns NULL.
The bug was identified via manual audit and verified using a
standalone test case compiled with AddressSanitizer, which
triggered a SEGV on affected inputs.

The triggering data is delivered over the network via SMB responses.
AC:L - The trigger is a deterministic empty or delimiter-only prepath condition; no race or hard-to-control environmental condition is required. A malicious server or local mount caller can craft the relevant path form directly.
PR:N - In the network scenario, the attacker only needs to operate the SMB/DFS endpoint that the victim client contacts and needs no privileges on the victim system. Local user-namespace reachability also exists before the final non-`FS_USERNS_MOUNT` mount denial, but the no-privilege malicious-server scenario is more severe.
UI:R - The victim must initiate or otherwise cause an SMB/CIFS mount or DFS traversal to the attacker-controlled server. After that action, no further interaction is needed.
S:U - The bug corrupts or reads kernel memory within the same host kernel security authority. It does not cross a separate scope such as a hypervisor, guest boundary, or IOMMU boundary.
C:H - The immediate invalid access is a bounded read, but the same edge case can enter a path that treats memory before the prepath as part of the buffer, making this defensibly kernel memory corruption. Under the required overestimation rule, potential exploitation of kernel memory corruption is scored as high confidentiality impact.
I:H - After the out-of-bounds read, if the preceding byte is a delimiter the old code decrements the cursor and writes a NUL before the prepath buffer. That conditional out-of-bounds write is kernel memory corruption and is scored as high integrity impact.
A:H - The fix commit reports an AddressSanitizer SEGV on affected inputs, and the kernel path can produce invalid memory access or heap corruption. A repeatable kernel oops/panic or destabilization is therefore a high availability impact."

Title
drm/amdkfd: Fix out-of-bounds write in kfd_event_page_set()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/amdkfd: Fix out-of-bounds write in kfd_event_page_set()
The kfd_event_page_set() function writes KFD_SIGNAL_EVENT_LIMIT * 8
bytes via memset without checking the buffer size parameter. This allows
unprivileged userspace to trigger an out-of bounds kernel memory write
by passing a small buffer, leading to potential privilege
escalation.

No race or external condition is required.
PR:L - The path is available to unprivileged userspace with access to KFD/AMDGPU device nodes, and the relevant ioctls have no capability flag or `capable()` gate. Following the higher-severity rule for memory corruption, confidentiality impact is High.
I:H - The vulnerable `memset` writes attacker-triggered data beyond the allocated object, giving a kernel memory corruption primitive. Out-of-bounds writes are scored as High integrity impact because they can plausibly be developed into privilege escalation or control-flow/data corruption.
A:H - The out-of-bounds kernel write can corrupt adjacent kernel memory and readily crash or destabilize the kernel even without full exploitation. Kernel oops, panic, or persistent GPU/kernel failure is a High availability impact."

Title
ip6_gre: Use cached t->net in ip6erspan_changelink().
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ip6_gre: Use cached t->net in ip6erspan_changelink().
After commit 5e72ce3e3980 ("net: ipv6: Use link netns in newlink() of
rtnl_link_ops"), ip6erspan_newlink() correctly resolves the per-netns
ip6gre hash via link_net. ip6erspan_changelink() was not converted in
that series and still uses dev_net(dev), which diverges from the
device's creation netns after IFLA_NET_NS_FD migration.
This re-inserts the tunnel into the wrong per-netns hash. The
original netns keeps a stale entry. When that netns is later
destroyed, ip6gre_exit_rtnl_net() walks the stale entry, producing a
slab-use-after-free reported by KASAN, followed by a kernel BUG at
net/core/dev.c (LIST_POISON1) in unregister_netdevice_many_notify().
Reachable from an unprivileged user namespace (unshare --user
--map-root-user --net).
ip6gre_changelink() earlier in the same file already uses the cached
t->net; only ip6erspan_changelink() has the wrong shape.

7.8 (High)

Title
sched/psi: fix race between file release and pressure write
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
sched/psi: fix race between file release and pressure write
A potential race condition exists between pressure write and cgroup file
release regarding the priv member of struct kernfs_open_file, which
triggers the uaf reported in [1].
Consider the following scenario involving execution on two separate CPUs:
CPU0 CPU1
==== ====
vfs_rmdir()
kernfs_iop_rmdir()
cgroup_rmdir()
cgroup_kn_lock_live()
cgroup_destroy_locked()
cgroup_addrm_files()
cgroup_rm_file()
kernfs_remove_by_name()
kernfs_remove_by_name_ns()
vfs_write() __kernfs_remove()
new_sync_write() kernfs_drain()
kernfs_fop_write_iter() kernfs_drain_open_files()
cgroup_file_write() kernfs_release_file()
pressure_write() cgroup_file_release()
ctx = of->priv;
kfree(ctx);
of->priv = NULL;
cgroup_kn_unlock()
cgroup_kn_lock_live()
cgroup_get(cgrp)
cgroup_kn_unlock()
if (ctx->psi.trigger) // here, trigger uaf for ctx, that is of->priv
The cgroup_rmdir() is protected by the cgroup_mutex, it also safeguards
the memory deallocation of of->priv performed within cgroup_file_release().
However, the operations involving of->priv executed within pressure_write()
are not entirely covered by the protection of cgroup_mutex. Consequently,
if the code in pressure_write(), specifically the section handling the
ctx variable executes after cgroup_file_release() has completed, a uaf
vulnerability involving of->priv is triggered.
Therefore, the issue can be resolved by extending the scope of the
cgroup_mutex lock within pressure_write() to encompass all code paths
involving of->priv, thereby properly synchronizing the race condition
occurring between cgroup_file_release() and pressure_write().
And, if an live kn lock can be successfully acquired while executing
the pressure write operation, it indicates that the cgroup deletion
process has not yet reached its final stage; consequently, the priv
pointer within open_file cannot be NULL. Therefore, the operation to
retrieve the ctx value must be moved to a point *after* the live kn
lock has been successfully acquired.
In another situation, specifically after entering cgroup_kn_lock_live()
but before acquiring cgroup_mutex, there exists a different class of
race condition:
CPU0: write memory.pressure CPU1: write cgroup.pressure=0

kfree(ctx)
of->priv = NULL
cgroup_kn_unlock()
... acquires cgroup_mutex
ctx = of->priv; // may now be NULL
if (ctx->psi.trigger) // NULL dereference
Consequently, there is a possibility that of->priv is NULL, the pressure
write needs to check for this.
Now that the scope of the cgroup_mutex has been expanded, the original
explicit cgroup_get/put operations are no longer necessary, this is
because acquiring/releasing the live kn lock inherently executes a
cgroup get/put operation.

CPU0     CPU1
====     ====
     vfs_rmdir()
     kernfs_iop_rmdir()
     cgroup_rmdir()
     cgroup_kn_lock_live()
     cgroup_destroy_locked()
     cgroup_addrm_files()
     cgroup_rm_file()
     kernfs_remove_by_name()
     kernfs_remove_by_name_ns()
vfs_write()    __kernfs_remove()
new_sync_write()   kernfs_drain()
kernfs_fop_write_iter()  kernfs_drain_open_files()
cgroup_file_write()   kernfs_release_file()
pressure_write()   cgroup_file_release()
ctx = of->priv;
     kfree(ctx);
      of->priv = NULL;
     cgroup_kn_unlock()
cgroup_kn_lock_live()
cgroup_get(cgrp)
cgroup_kn_unlock()
if (ctx->psi.trigger) // here, trigger uaf for ctx, that is of->priv

The cgroup_rmdir() is protected by the cgroup_mutex, it also safeguards
the memory deallocation of of->priv performed within cgroup_file_release().
However, the operations involving of->priv executed within pressure_write()
are not entirely covered by the protection of cgroup_mutex. Consequently,
if the code in pressure_write(), specifically the section handling the
ctx variable executes after cgroup_file_release() has completed, a uaf
vulnerability involving of->priv is triggered.

Therefore, the issue can be resolved by extending the scope of the
cgroup_mutex lock within pressure_write() to encompass all code paths
involving of->priv, thereby properly synchronizing the race condition
occurring between cgroup_file_release() and pressure_write().

And, if an live kn lock can be successfully acquired while executing
the pressure write operation, it indicates that the cgroup deletion
process has not yet reached its final stage; consequently, the priv
pointer within open_file cannot be NULL. Therefore, the operation to
retrieve the ctx value must be moved to a point *after* the live kn
lock has been successfully acquired.

In another situation, specifically after entering cgroup_kn_lock_live()
but before acquiring cgroup_mutex, there exists a different class of
race condition:

CPU0: write memory.pressure CPU1: write cgroup.pressure=0
===========================   =============================

kernfs_fop_write_iter()
kernfs_get_active_of(of)
pressure_write()
cgroup_kn_lock_live(memory.pressure)
cgroup_tryget(cgrp)
kernfs_break_active_protection(kn)
... blocks on cgroup_mutex

   cgroup_pressure_write()
   cgroup_kn_lock_live(cgroup.pressure)
   cgroup_file_show(memory.pressure, false)
   kernfs_show(false)
   kernfs_drain_open_files()
   cgroup_file_release(of)
   kfree(ctx)
   of->priv = NULL
   cgroup_kn_unlock()

... acquires cgroup_mutex
ctx = of->priv; // may now be NULL
if (ctx->psi.trigger) // NULL dereference

[1]
BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in pressure_write+0xa4/0x210 kernel/cgroup/cgroup.c:4011
Call Trace:
pressure_write+0xa4/0x210 kernel/cgroup/cgroup.c:4011
cgroup_file_write+0x36f/0x790 kernel/cgroup/cgroup.c:43
---truncated---
AV:L - The vulnerable path is reached through local syscalls writing to cgroup v2 PSI control files such as cpu.pressure, memory.pressure, io.pressure, or irq.pressure. There is no network or physical packet-processing path involved.
AC:L - The attacker can control both sides of the race by concurrently writing a pressure trigger and removing the cgroup or disabling cgroup.pressure to drain open files. No unusual victim state or externally uncontrolled timing condition is required beyond a repeatable local race.
PR:L - The pressure files are local cgroupfs files; root can always reach them, and unprivileged users can reach equivalent files in delegated cgroup sub-hierarchies they can create and manage. This is therefore low local privilege rather than init-namespace administrator-only.
UI:N - Exploitation only requires attacker-controlled syscalls against cgroupfs file descriptors. No victim user action is needed.
S:U - The vulnerability corrupts kernel memory from a kernel cgroup/PSI file operation and impacts the same kernel security authority. It is not a VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or cross-authority boundary violation.
C:H - This is a slab use-after-free of struct cgroup_file_ctx, and the stale object can be raced with attacker-influenced heap reuse. Following kernel UAF scoring guidance, this can plausibly support kernel memory disclosure primitives.
I:H - The pre-fix path can read and later store through the freed ctx->psi.trigger field after the object has been freed, giving a plausible write/corruption primitive with heap grooming. Following kernel UAF scoring guidance, integrity impact is high.
A:H - The reported bug is a KASAN slab-use-after-free in pressure_write and can crash or oops the kernel. Repeated local triggering can therefore cause high availability impact."
