Title
Filter Injection through Action Parameters in AD LDAP app for Splunk SOAR
Summary
In versions below 2.3.8 of the AD LDAP app for Splunk SOAR, a user who holds a role with permission to run actions could inject crafted input into an Active Directory query to enumerate Active Directory objects, including accounts, groups, and organizational units, read sensitive attributes from arbitrary directory objects, and redirect account modification actions to unintended objects. Title
Quay: ldap referral filter injection in quay external ldap authentication
Summary
A flaw was found in Red Hat Quay's external Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) authentication handling. When an LDAP referral is returned during authentication, the system does not properly escape the username input. This allows an attacker to inject LDAP filter metacharacters, enabling user-existence oracle attacks at the referral Directory Name (DN). This could also potentially influence which DN is used for password binding in multi-domain Active Directory environments.

Title
Samba: samba ad ldap compare filter injection and trusted-request confusion disclose protected attributes
Summary
A security flaw combining LDAP filter injection and improper authorization checks was found in Samba Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC). When processing LDAP Compare requests, Samba fails to properly validate user-supplied attribute names and executes the resulting internal database search in a trusted context, bypassing normal Access Control List (ACL) enforcement. An authenticated low-privilege domain user can exploit these flaws to disclose confidential Active Directory attributes that would normally be inaccessible. The disclosed information may be leveraged to derive sensitive authentication material, potentially leading to privilege escalation and complete domain compromise. For example: In deployments configured with Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSAs), an attacker can extract the "msKds-RootKeyData" attribute and derive gMSA passwords offline, potentially leading to complete domain compromise if privileged gMSAs are present.

Title
Apache Shiro: LDAP DN Injection in DefaultLdapRealm
Summary
A remote attacker can inject LDAP special characters into the Distinguished Name (DN) construction in DefaultLdapRealm class. User-supplied username input is directly concatenated into the LDAP DN template without any escaping of RFC 2253 special characters. This allows an attacker to manipulate the DN structure used for LDAP bind authentication, potentially bypassing authentication or impersonating other users. This issue affects all Apache Shiro versions through 2.2.0, and 3.0.0-alpha-1 when using DefaultLdapRealm Upgrade to Apache Shiro 2.2.1 or 3.0.0-alpha-2 or later, which fixes the issue.

Roxy-WI is a web interface for managing Haproxy, Nginx, Apache and Keepalived servers. In versions 8.2.6.4 and prior, get_ldap_email (app/modules/roxywi/user.py:120-157) builds the LDAP search filter via f-string concatenation. The username URL path parameter is taken verbatim — no checkAjaxInput, no LDAP escape — and inserted, a username like *)(mail=*)(cn=* injects additional clauses, allowing the admin to enumerate or harvest attributes outside the intended record. At time of publication, there are no publicly available patches.

Title
ZITADEL: LDAP Filter Injection in Login Flow
Summary
ZITADEL is an open source identity management platform. From 2.71.11 to before 3.4.10 and 4.15.0, a vulnerability was discovered in Zitadel's LDAP identity provider implementation, which fails to properly escape user-provided usernames before incorporating them into LDAP search filters. This allows unauthenticated attackers to perform LDAP Filter Injection during the login process. While this vulnerability does not allow for a full authentication bypass, an attacker can use LDAP metacharacters (such as *, (, )) to perform blind LDAP injection. By observing the different failure (or success) responses, an attacker can systematically enumerate valid usernames and extract sensitive attribute data from the connected LDAP directory. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.4.10 and 4.15.0.

Implementation

Strategy: Input Validation

  • Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
  • When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
  • Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
CAPEC-136: LDAP Injection

An attacker manipulates or crafts an LDAP query for the purpose of undermining the security of the target. Some applications use user input to create LDAP queries that are processed by an LDAP server. For example, a user might provide their username during authentication and the username might be inserted in an LDAP query during the authentication process. An attacker could use this input to inject additional commands into an LDAP query that could disclose sensitive information. For example, entering a * in the aforementioned query might return information about all users on the system. This attack is very similar to an SQL injection attack in that it manipulates a query to gather additional information or coerce a particular return value.
