Details: GStreamer is a streaming media framework based on graphs of filters which operate on media data. The gstreamer1-plugins-good packages contain a collection of well-supported plug-ins of good quality and under the LGPL license. CVE-2026-18296

A flaw was found in GStreamer. A remote attacker could exploit a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability when parsing specially crafted MRF (Multimedia Research Forum) files. This vulnerability arises from insufficient validation of user-supplied data length before copying it to a heap-based buffer. Successful exploitation requires user interaction, such as visiting a malicious page or opening a malicious file, and could lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current process.

GStreamer MRF File Parsing Heap-based Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of GStreamer. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of MRF files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a heap-based buffer.
