Title
Bluetooth: RFCOMM: avoid leaving dangling sk pointer in rfcomm_sock_alloc()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: RFCOMM: avoid leaving dangling sk pointer in rfcomm_sock_alloc() bt_sock_alloc() attaches allocated sk object to the provided sock object. If rfcomm_dlc_alloc() fails, we release the sk object, but leave the dangling pointer in the sock object, which may cause use-after-free. Fix this by swapping calls to bt_sock_alloc() and rfcomm_dlc_alloc().

Exploitation thus requires local execution rather than Bluetooth-range access.\nAC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the condition \u2014 they can drive the system into memory pressure with their own allocations (GFP_ATOMIC allocations fail readily under pressure) while looping on RFCOMM socket creation until the `rfcomm_dlc_alloc()` kzalloc fails. No memory layout or victim state outside the attacker\u0027s influence is required.\nPR:L - `bt_sock_create()` performs no capability check for BTPROTO_RFCOMM and even autoloads the rfcomm module on demand, so any unprivileged local user can reach `rfcomm_sock_alloc()` without Bluetooth hardware or CAP_NET_ADMIN/CAP_NET_RAW.\nUI:N - The attacker triggers the entire sequence from their own process via the socket() syscall; no action by any other user is needed.\nS:U - The freed `struct sock` and the stale pointer both live in kernel memory within the same security authority; there is no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary crossed.\nC:H - A freed `struct sock` (rfcomm_pinfo slab object) remains referenced by the socket, and a use-after-free on that object lets an attacker reclaim the slot with controlled data and read back kernel memory, so per UAF scoring guidance confidentiality impact is High.\nI:H - Use-after-free on a `struct sock` gives heap-spray and write primitives over function-pointer-bearing fields (sk_destruct, sk_data_ready, sk_state_change are all set in this very function), which is leverageable for control-flow hijack, so integrity impact is High.\nA:H - Dereferencing the dangling `sk` pointer results in slab corruption and a kernel oops/panic, which is a full denial of service."

Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
