Title
gso: fix udp gso fraglist segmentation after pull from frag_list
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gso: fix udp gso fraglist segmentation after pull from frag_list
Detect gso fraglist skbs with corrupted geometry (see below) and
pass these to skb_segment instead of skb_segment_list, as the first
can segment them correctly.
Valid SKB_GSO_FRAGLIST skbs
- consist of two or more segments
- the head_skb holds the protocol headers plus first gso_size
- one or more frag_list skbs hold exactly one segment
- all but the last must be gso_size
Optional datapath hooks such as NAT and BPF (bpf_skb_pull_data) can
modify these skbs, breaking these invariants.
In extreme cases they pull all data into skb linear. For UDP, this
causes a NULL ptr deref in __udpv4_gso_segment_list_csum at
udp_hdr(seg->next)->dest.
Detect invalid geometry due to pull, by checking head_skb size.
Don't just drop, as this may blackhole a destination. Convert to be
able to pass to regular skb_segment.
AV:N - The vulnerable code is reached entirely by processing UDP packets received from the network and re-emitted on the IP forwarding path (ip_rcv → ip_forward → GSO segmentation), with no local access required. A remote, multi-hop attacker sending a burst of routed UDP datagrams through a Linux router/NAT gateway or tethering device triggers it.
AC:L - On an affected device (GRO fraglist enabled plus a UDP NAT helper or tc/BPF program that pulls data), the attacker simply sends back-to-back UDP packets of the same flow; GRO coalescing and the subsequent full linearize occur deterministically, with no race to win and no memory layout to groom.
PR:N - The packets are handled in the forwarding/softirq path before any authentication or authorization; the attacker needs no account, credentials, or privileges on the target at all.
UI:N - Segmentation happens automatically as the kernel forwards attacker-supplied packets out of the egress device; no action by any local user or administrator is needed.
S:U - The NULL dereference crashes the kernel that owns the vulnerable network stack, so the vulnerable and impacted components share the same security authority with no boundary crossed.
C:N - The defect is a read of a fixed low address derived from a NULL sk_buff pointer (udp_hdr(seg->next)->dest); there is no attacker-controlled offset, no out-of-bounds read of valid memory, and no data returned to the attacker.
I:N - Execution faults on the comparison before any write occurs in __udpv4_gso_segment_csum, so no kernel memory, packet data, or control flow is modified.
A:H - The NULL pointer dereference occurs in softirq/NAPI context, producing an oops that Linux escalates to a full kernel panic ("fatal exception in interrupt"), and it can be re-triggered at will by resending UDP traffic."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
