Vulnerability from csaf_abb - Published: 2026-11-06 00:30 - Updated: 2026-11-06 00:30PHP uses longjmp() for out-of-memory (OOM) errors to exit the current context and abort handling of the request. Some contexts may not properly account for this scenario and leave request memory in an uninitialized state before performing an allocation. The subsequent request cleanup procedure may read or branch on this memory. Multiple OOM strategies can consistently trigger this condition and lead to remote code execution (RCE).

PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. In some scenarios, global state may not be correctly reset, or may be repopulated after being reset. The global state may then refer to request memory even after it has been freed. Subsequent requests may read or branch on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple strategies can trigger this condition and produce remote code execution (RCE).
In NTFS-3G 2022.10.3 before 2026.2.25, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_build_permissions_posix() in acls.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered on the READ path (stat, readdir, open) when processing a security descriptor with multiple ACCESS_DENIED ACEs containing WRITE_OWNER from distinct group SIDs.
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in cat() in ntfscat.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the ntfscat binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by reading a file.
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_ir_to_ib() in index.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by extending a directory, e.g., by creating a file.
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_decompress() in compress.c that allows an attacker to corrupt one byte of heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by reading the special crafted file.
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_ib_copy_tail(), in libntfs-3g/index.c, that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by extending a directory, e.g., by creating a file.
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_index_walk_down() in libntfs-3g/index.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by reading the special crafted file metadata.
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_ib_cut_tail() in libntfs-3g/index.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by creating a file in a specially crafted directory.
In NTFS-3G through 2026.2.25, a heap-based buffer overflow exists in the function build_inherited_id() in libntfs-3g/security.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by creating a file in a crafted directory.

"text": "ABB has a rigorous internal cyber security continuous improvement process which involves regular testing with industry leading tools and periodic assessments to identify potential product issues. Occasionally an issue is determined to be a design or coding flaw with implications that may impact product cyber security.\n\nWhen a potential product vulnerability is identified or reported, ABB immediately initiates our vulnerability handling process. This entails validating if the issue is in fact a product issue, identifying root causes, determining what related products may be impacted, developing a remediation, and notifying end users and governmental organizations.\n\nThe resulting Cyber Security Advisory intends to notify customers of the vulnerability and provide details on which products are impacted, how to mitigate the vulnerability or explain workarounds that minimize the potential risk as much as possible. The release of a Cyber Security Advisory should not be misconstrued as an affirmation or indication of an active threat or ongoing campaign targeting the products mentioned here. If ABB is aware of any specific threats, it will be clearly mentioned in the communication.\n\nThe publication of this Cyber Security Advisory is an example of ABB\u0027s commitment to the user community in support of this critical topic. Responsible disclosure is an important element in the chain of trust we work to maintain with our many customers. The release of an Advisory provides timely information which is essential to help ensure our customers are fully informed.",

"category": "faq",
"text": "What causes the vulnerability?\n- The vulnerability is caused by PHP and NTFS-3G components not handling properly memory requests.\n\nWhat might an attacker use the vulnerability to do?\n- An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could cause the affected system node to allow the attacker to insert and run arbitrary code.\n\nHow could an attacker exploit the vulnerability?\n- For the PHP vulnerabilities, an attacker could try to exploit the vulnerability by creating a specially crafted request and sending it to an affected system. This would require that the attacker has access to the system network, by connecting to the network either directly or through a wrongly configured or penetrated firewall, or that the attacker installs malicious software on a system node or otherwise infects the network with malicious software. For the NTFS-3G vulnerabilities, an attacker would need the affected system to process a maliciously crafted NTFS filesystem image, e.g. by connecting an untrusted storage device. Recommended practices help mitigate such attacks, see section Mitigating factors above.\n\nCould the vulnerability be exploited remotely?\n- Yes, an attacker who has network access to an affected system could exploit the PHP vulnerabilities. The NTFS-3G vulnerabilities cannot be exploited remotely without the system processing a crafted NTFS filesystem image.\n\nWhat does the update do?\n- The update removes the vulnerabilities by using a PHP version that is not affected by them and by disabling the NTFS-3G module.\n\nWhen this security advisory was issued, had this vulnerability been publicly disclosed?\n- Yes, this vulnerability has been publicly disclosed.\n\nWhen this security advisory was issued, had ABB received any reports that this vulnerability was being exploited?\n- No, ABB had not received any information indicating that this vulnerability had been exploited when this security advisory was originally issued.",

Nomenclature
- Seen: The vulnerability was mentioned, discussed, or observed by the user.
- Confirmed: The vulnerability has been validated from an analyst's perspective.
- Published Proof of Concept: A public proof of concept is available for this vulnerability.
- Exploited: The vulnerability was observed as exploited by the user who reported the sighting.
- Patched: The vulnerability was observed as successfully patched by the user who reported the sighting.
- Not exploited: The vulnerability was not observed as exploited by the user who reported the sighting.
- Not confirmed: The user expressed doubt about the validity of the vulnerability.
- Not patched: The vulnerability was not observed as successfully patched by the user who reported the sighting.

How durations are calculated
Following the VTEM framework (Black Hat USA 2015), time to patch starts when the vendor or a coordinator was informed, total time to patch at discovery, and disclosure to patch at public disclosure; vendor response time runs from the report to its acknowledgement. Time to exploit and time unpatched start at the earliest discovery or report, falling back to public disclosure. Unpatched time ends at the first recorded patch, or the calculation time when no patch is recorded. Exploitation to patch shows the interval between those two events; a published proof of concept is a public exploit, not exploitation.
Each result shows its source dates. A negative interval means the end event came first; when date-only inputs leave the order open, the result says so. Date-only inputs are approximate. The earliest evidence wins: KEV report dates and sightings are labelled as such. Records describing another vulnerability are listed but never calculated from, and a PoC alone does not establish exploitation. Missing patch evidence does not prove that no patch exists. Filters below change the event list only.
