Summary
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to versions 7.1.2-16, a heap-based buffer overflow in the UHDR encoder can happen due to truncation of a value and it would allow an out of bounds write. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.1.2-16.

Title
FreeRDP has a Heap Buffer Overflow in nsc_process_message() via Unchecked SURFACE_BITS_COMMAND Bitmap Dimensions
Summary
FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.24.0, the gdi_surface_bits() function processes SURFACE_BITS_COMMAND messages sent by the RDP server. When the command is handled using NSCodec, the bmp.width and bmp.height values provided by the server are not properly validated against the actual desktop dimensions. A malicious RDP server can supply crafted bmp.width and bmp.height values that exceed the expected surface size. Because these values are used during bitmap decoding and memory operations without proper bounds checking, this can lead to a heap buffer overflow. Since the attacker can also control the associated pixel data transmitted by the server, the overflow may be exploitable to overwrite adjacent heap memory. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.24.0.

ImageMagick has a heap buffer over-write on 32-bit systems in SFW decoder
Summary
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to 7.1.2-16 and 6.9.13-41, an overflow on 32-bit systems can cause a crash in the SFW decoder when processing extremely large images. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.1.2-16 and 6.9.13-41.

Description:

  • Run or compile the software using features or extensions that randomly arrange the positions of a program's executable and libraries in memory. Because this makes the addresses unpredictable, it can prevent an attacker from reliably jumping to exploitable code.
  • Examples include Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) [REF-58] [REF-60] and Position-Independent Executables (PIE) [REF-64]. Imported modules may be similarly realigned if their default memory addresses conflict with other modules, in a process known as "rebasing" (for Windows) and "prelinking" (for Linux) [REF-1332] using randomly generated addresses. ASLR for libraries cannot be used in conjunction with prelink since it would require relocating the libraries at run-time, defeating the whole purpose of prelinking.

CAPEC-92: Forced Integer Overflow

This attack forces an integer variable to go out of range. The integer variable is often used as an offset such as size of memory allocation or similarly. The attacker would typically control the value of such variable and try to get it out of range. For instance the integer in question is incremented past the maximum possible value, it may wrap to become a very small, or negative number, therefore providing a very incorrect value which can lead to unexpected behavior. At worst the attacker can execute arbitrary code.
