Title
iio: adc: ti-adc161s626: use DMA-safe memory for spi_read()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
iio: adc: ti-adc161s626: use DMA-safe memory for spi_read()
Add a DMA-safe buffer and use it for spi_read() instead of a stack
memory. All SPI buffers must be DMA-safe.
Since we only need up to 3 bytes, we just use a u8[] instead of __be16
and __be32 and change the conversion functions appropriately.

There is no network or adjacent protocol path to this hardware-specific SPI ADC driver.\nAC:L - On an affected system with this ADC behind a DMA-capable SPI controller, the attacker can repeatedly trigger the vulnerable read directly; no race or external condition beyond the deployment is required.\nPR:L - Triggering the direct IIO raw read requires only a basic local unprivileged user able to read sysfs device attributes. No real root/admin capability is required for that path.\nUI:N - The attacker can trigger the read themselves by accessing the sysfs attribute. No victim action is needed.\nS:U - The corruption occurs within the kernel context managing the SPI/IIO device. It does not cross a separate security authority such as a guest/host or IOMMU isolation boundary.\nC:H - The bug passes kernel stack memory as a DMA receive buffer, creating kernel stack/cacheline memory corruption on DMA-capable controllers. Kernel stack corruption is reasonably exploitable for broader kernel memory disclosure.\nI:H - DMA into non-DMA-safe stack memory can corrupt adjacent kernel stack state and potentially control data or control flow. Under the required high-severity tie-break, this supports high integrity impact.\nA:H - Kernel stack corruption from repeated ADC reads can cause oopses, panics, or hangs. Availability impact is therefore high."

Experimental. This forecast is provided for visualization only and may change without notice. Do not use it for operational decisions.
Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.
Browse all ATT&CK techniques and the vulnerabilities related to each.

Related by attack behaviour
Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
