Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-01-11 15:30 – Updated: 2025-02-03 15:32In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
arm64: ptrace: fix partial SETREGSET for NT_ARM_POE
Currently poe_set() doesn't initialize the temporary 'ctrl' variable, and a SETREGSET call with a length of zero will leave this uninitialized. Consequently an arbitrary value will be written back to target->thread.por_el0, potentially leaking up to 64 bits of memory from the kernel stack. The read is limited to a specific slot on the stack, and the issue does not provide a write mechanism.
Fix this by initializing the temporary value before copying the regset from userspace, as for other regsets (e.g. NT_PRSTATUS, NT_PRFPREG, NT_ARM_SYSTEM_CALL). In the case of a zero-length write, the existing contents of POR_EL1 will be retained.
Before this patch:
| # ./poe-test | Attempting to write NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 = 0x900d900d900d900d | SETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=8) wrote 8 bytes | | Attempting to read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 | GETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=8) read 8 bytes | Read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 = 0x900d900d900d900d | | Attempting to write NT_ARM_POE (zero length) | SETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=0) wrote 0 bytes | | Attempting to read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 | GETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=8) read 8 bytes | Read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 = 0xffff8000839c3d50
After this patch:
| # ./poe-test | Attempting to write NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 = 0x900d900d900d900d | SETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=8) wrote 8 bytes | | Attempting to read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 | GETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=8) read 8 bytes | Read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 = 0x900d900d900d900d | | Attempting to write NT_ARM_POE (zero length) | SETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=0) wrote 0 bytes | | Attempting to read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 | GETREGSET(nt=0x40f, len=8) read 8 bytes | Read NT_ARM_POE::por_el0 = 0x900d900d900d900d

Fixes copying of xfrm algorithms where some random data of the structure fields can end up in userspace. Padding in structures may be filled with random (possibly sensitve) data and should never be given directly to user-space.
A similar issue was resolved in the commit 8222d5910dae ("xfrm: Zero padding when dumping algos and encap")

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-01-14 18:32 – Updated: 2026-08-11 18:30A flaw was found in the rsync daemon which could be triggered when rsync compares file checksums. This flaw allows an attacker to manipulate the checksum length (s2length) to cause a comparison between a checksum and uninitialized memory and leak one byte of uninitialized stack data at a time.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-08-06 00:31 – Updated: 2024-08-06 00:31oFono AT CMGL Command Uninitialized Variable Information Disclosure Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows local attackers to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of oFono. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute code on the target modem in order to exploit this vulnerability.
The specific flaw exists within the parsing of responses from AT+CMGL commands. The issue results from the lack of proper initialization of memory prior to accessing it. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code in the context of root. Was ZDI-CAN-23307.

This issue occurs because the skb buffer is too small, and it's actual allocation is aligned. This hides an actual issue, which is that nr_route_frame does not validate the buffer size before using it.
Fix this issue by checking skb->len before accessing any fields in skb->data.

BTRFS: error (device vdc: state EA) in cleanup_transaction:2055: errno=-2 No such entry
This happens because create_pending_snapshot() initializes the new root item as a copy of the source root item. This includes the refs field, which is 0 for a deleted subvolume. The call to btrfs_insert_root() therefore inserts a root with refs == 0. btrfs_get_new_fs_root() then finds the root and returns -ENOENT if refs == 0, which causes create_pending_snapshot() to abort.
Fix it by checking the source root's refs before attempting the snapshot, but after locking subvol_sem to avoid racing with deletion.

This includes the refs field,\nwhich is 0 for a deleted subvolume. The call to btrfs_insert_root()\ntherefore inserts a root with refs == 0. btrfs_get_new_fs_root() then\nfinds the root and returns -ENOENT if refs == 0, which causes\ncreate_pending_snapshot() to abort.\n\nFix it by checking the source root\u0027s refs before attempting the\nsnapshot, but after locking subvol_sem to avoid racing with deletion.",

Mitigation
Explicitly initialize the resource before use. If this is performed through an API function or standard procedure, follow all required steps.
Mitigation
Pay close attention to complex conditionals that affect initialization, since some branches might not perform the initialization.
Mitigation
Avoid race conditions (CWE-362) during initialization routines.
Mitigation
Run or compile the product with settings that generate warnings about uninitialized variables or data.
No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
