CWE-416
AllowedUse After Free
Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
9854 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-05-17 15:31 – Updated: 2024-07-03 18:42In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
x86/fpu: Keep xfd_state in sync with MSR_IA32_XFD
Commit 672365477ae8 ("x86/fpu: Update XFD state where required") and commit 8bf26758ca96 ("x86/fpu: Add XFD state to fpstate") introduced a per CPU variable xfd_state to keep the MSR_IA32_XFD value cached, in order to avoid unnecessary writes to the MSR.
On CPU hotplug MSR_IA32_XFD is reset to the init_fpstate.xfd, which wipes out any stale state. But the per CPU cached xfd value is not reset, which brings them out of sync.
As a consequence a subsequent xfd_update_state() might fail to update the MSR which in turn can result in XRSTOR raising a #NM in kernel space, which crashes the kernel.
To fix this, introduce xfd_set_state() to write xfd_state together with MSR_IA32_XFD, and use it in all places that set MSR_IA32_XFD.

GHSA-R4XH-PF27-FWP5
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-22 15:31 – Updated: 2026-04-27 15:30In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
xfs: save ailp before dropping the AIL lock in push callbacks
In xfs_inode_item_push() and xfs_qm_dquot_logitem_push(), the AIL lock is dropped to perform buffer IO. Once the cluster buffer no longer protects the log item from reclaim, the log item may be freed by background reclaim or the dquot shrinker. The subsequent spin_lock() call dereferences lip->li_ailp, which is a use-after-free.
Fix this by saving the ailp pointer in a local variable while the AIL lock is held and the log item is guaranteed to be valid.

GHSA-R56G-VPX5-3639
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-25 09:31 – Updated: 2026-06-28 09:31In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ALSA: timer: Forcibly close timer instances at closing
When snd_timer object is freed via snd_timer_free() and still pending snd_timer_instance objects are assigned to the timer object, it tries to unlink all instances and just set NULL to each ti->timer, then releases the resources immediately. The problem is, however, when there are slave timer instances that are associated with a master instance linked to this timer: namely, those slave instances still point to the freed timer object although the master instance is unlinked, which may lead to user-after-free. The bug can be easily triggered particularly when a new userspace-driven timers (CONFIG_SND_UTIMER) is involved, since it can create and delete the timer object via a simple file open/close, while the other applications may keep accessing to that timer.
This patch is an attempt to paper over the problem above: now instead of just unlinking, call snd_timer_close_locked forcibly for each pending timer instance, so that all assigned slave timer instances are properly detached, too. Since snd_timer_close() might be called later by the driver that created that instance, the check of SNDRV_TIMER_IFLG_DEAD is added at the beginning, too.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-13 01:33 – Updated: 2022-05-13 01:33This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Foxit Reader 9.2.0.9297. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the handling of the isCompatibleNS method of a XFA object. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-6518.
