Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-14 01:09 – Updated: 2022-05-14 01:09VMware ESXi (6.7 before ESXi670-201904101-SG and 6.5 before ESXi650-201903001), Workstation (15.x before 15.0.3 and 14.x before 14.1.6), Fusion (11.x before 11.0.3 and 10.x before 10.1.6) updates address an out-of-bounds vulnerability with the vertex shader functionality. Exploitation of this issue requires an attacker to have access to a virtual machine with 3D graphics enabled. Successful exploitation of this issue may lead to information disclosure or may allow attackers with normal user privileges to create a denial-of-service condition on their own VM. The workaround for this issue involves disabling the 3D-acceleration feature. This feature is not enabled by default on ESXi and is enabled by default on Workstation and Fusion.

GHSA-F2W8-JW48-FR7J
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-11-21 21:54 – Updated: 2022-11-21 21:54Impact
If FractionMaxPoolGrad is given outsize inputs row_pooling_sequence and col_pooling_sequence, TensorFlow will crash.
import tensorflow as tf
tf.raw_ops.FractionMaxPoolGrad(
orig_input = [[[[1, 1, 1, 1, 1]]]],
orig_output = [[[[1, 1, 1]]]],
out_backprop = [[[[3], [3], [6]]]],
row_pooling_sequence = [-0x4000000, 1, 1],
col_pooling_sequence = [-0x4000000, 1, 1],
overlapping = False
)
Patches
We have patched the issue in GitHub commit d71090c3e5ca325bdf4b02eb236cfb3ee823e927.
The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.11. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.10.1, 2.9.3, and TensorFlow 2.8.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-24 17:35 – Updated: 2022-06-03 00:00An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in macOS Big Sur 11.0.1, watchOS 7.0, tvOS 14.0, iOS 14.0 and iPadOS 14.0. A malicious application may be able to read restricted memory.

Mitigation MIT-5
Strategy: Input Validation
- Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
- When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
- Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
- To reduce the likelihood of introducing an out-of-bounds read, ensure that you validate and ensure correct calculations for any length argument, buffer size calculation, or offset. Be especially careful of relying on a sentinel (i.e. special character such as NUL) in untrusted inputs.
Mitigation
Strategy: Language Selection
Use a language that provides appropriate memory abstractions.
CAPEC-540: Overread Buffers
An adversary attacks a target by providing input that causes an application to read beyond the boundary of a defined buffer. This typically occurs when a value influencing where to start or stop reading is set to reflect positions outside of the valid memory location of the buffer. This type of attack may result in exposure of sensitive information, a system crash, or arbitrary code execution.
