Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-08 00:30 – Updated: 2026-05-12 15:31
VLAI
Details

Issue summary: During processing of a crafted CMS EnvelopedData message with KeyTransportRecipientInfo a NULL pointer dereference can happen.

Impact summary: Applications that process attacker-controlled CMS data may crash before authentication or cryptographic operations occur resulting in Denial of Service.

When a CMS EnvelopedData message that uses KeyTransportRecipientInfo with RSA-OAEP encryption is processed, the optional parameters field of RSA-OAEP SourceFunc algorithm identifier is examined without checking for its presence. This results in a NULL pointer dereference if the field is missing.

Applications and services that call CMS_decrypt() on untrusted input (e.g., S/MIME processing or CMS-based protocols) are vulnerable.

The FIPS modules in 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.3 and 3.0 are not affected by this issue, as the affected code is outside the OpenSSL FIPS module boundary.

GHSA-FGQH-527Q-6HX4

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-25 09:31 – Updated: 2026-07-06 18:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bnxt_en: Fix NULL pointer dereference

PCIe errors detected by a Root Port or Downstream Port cause error recovery services to run on all subordinate devices regardless of administrative state.

The .error_detected() callback, bnxt_io_error_detected(), disables and synchronizes IRQs via bnxt_disable_int_sync(), which calls bnxt_cp_num_to_irq_num() to map completion rings to IRQs using bp->bnapi.

Since bp->bnapi is allocated on NIC open and freed on NIC close, PCIe error recovery on a closed NIC can dereference a NULL pointer.

Check if bp->bnapi is NULL before disabling and synchronizing IRQs.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-05-02 18:31 – Updated: 2025-11-12 21:30

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

usb: ucsi: Fix NULL pointer deref in ucsi_connector_change()

When ucsi_init() fails, ucsi->connector is NULL, yet in case of ucsi_acpi we may still get events which cause the ucs_acpi code to call ucsi_connector_change(), which then derefs the NULL ucsi->connector pointer.

Fix this by not setting ucsi->ntfy inside ucsi_init() until ucsi_init() has succeeded, so that ucsi_connector_change() ignores the events because UCSI_ENABLE_NTFY_CONNECTOR_CHANGE is not set in the ntfy mask.

GHSA-FH4F-4W54-VGRF

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-03-03 00:30 – Updated: 2025-01-13 21:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bpf, sockmap: Reject sk_msg egress redirects to non-TCP sockets

With a SOCKMAP/SOCKHASH map and an sk_msg program user can steer messages sent from one TCP socket (s1) to actually egress from another TCP socket (s2):

tcp_bpf_sendmsg(s1) // = sk_prot->sendmsg tcp_bpf_send_verdict(s1) // __SK_REDIRECT case tcp_bpf_sendmsg_redir(s2) tcp_bpf_push_locked(s2) tcp_bpf_push(s2) tcp_rate_check_app_limited(s2) // expects tcp_sock tcp_sendmsg_locked(s2) // ditto

There is a hard-coded assumption in the call-chain, that the egress socket (s2) is a TCP socket.

However in commit 122e6c79efe1 ("sock_map: Update sock type checks for UDP") we have enabled redirects to non-TCP sockets. This was done for the sake of BPF sk_skb programs. There was no indention to support sk_msg send-to-egress use case.

As a result, attempts to send-to-egress through a non-TCP socket lead to a crash due to invalid downcast from sock to tcp_sock:

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-14 02:05 – Updated: 2022-05-14 02:05
VLAI
Details

The TIFFFetchNormalTag function in LibTiff 4.0.6 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and crash) by setting the tags TIFF_SETGET_C16ASCII or TIFF_SETGET_C32_ASCII to values that access 0-byte arrays. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2016-9297.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-02-06 09:31 – Updated: 2025-02-06 09:31

Details

NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in Defense Platform Home Edition Ver.3.9.51.x and earlier. If an attacker provides specially crafted data to the specific process of the Windows system where the product is running, the system may cause a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), and as a result, cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition.

GHSA-FH5C-W77M-VMMM

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-07-12 15:31 – Updated: 2026-05-12 12:32
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

iommu: Return right value in iommu_sva_bind_device()

iommu_sva_bind_device() should return either a sva bond handle or an ERR_PTR value in error cases. Existing drivers (idxd and uacce) only check the return value with IS_ERR(). This could potentially lead to a kernel NULL pointer dereference issue if the function returns NULL instead of an error pointer.

In reality, this doesn't cause any problems because iommu_sva_bind_device() only returns NULL when the kernel is not configured with CONFIG_IOMMU_SVA. In this case, iommu_dev_enable_feature(dev, IOMMU_DEV_FEAT_SVA) will return an error, and the device drivers won't call iommu_sva_bind_device() at all.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
