GHSA-F4FV-H3X5-8339

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-01-21 09:31 – Updated: 2026-06-02 15:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net/sched: sch_qfq: Fix NULL deref when deactivating inactive aggregate in qfq_reset

qfq_class->leaf_qdisc->q.qlen > 0 does not imply that the class itself is active.

Two qfq_class objects may point to the same leaf_qdisc. This happens when:

  1. one QFQ qdisc is attached to the dev as the root qdisc, and

  2. another QFQ qdisc is temporarily referenced (e.g., via qdisc_get() / qdisc_put()) and is pending to be destroyed, as in function tc_new_tfilter.

When packets are enqueued through the root QFQ qdisc, the shared leaf_qdisc->q.qlen increases. At the same time, the second QFQ qdisc triggers qdisc_put and qdisc_destroy: the qdisc enters qfq_reset() with its own q->q.qlen == 0, but its class's leaf qdisc->q.qlen > 0. Therefore, the qfq_reset would wrongly deactivate an inactive aggregate and trigger a null-deref in qfq_deactivate_agg:

GHSA-F4H6-HF7G-852R

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-10-04 09:30 – Updated: 2026-01-23 21:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net/tcp: Fix a NULL pointer dereference when using TCP-AO with TCP_REPAIR

A NULL pointer dereference can occur in tcp_ao_finish_connect() during a connect() system call on a socket with a TCP-AO key added and TCP_REPAIR enabled.

The function is called with skb being NULL and attempts to dereference it on tcp_hdr(skb)->seq without a prior skb validation.

Fix this by checking if skb is NULL before dereferencing it.

The commentary is taken from bpf_skops_established(), which is also called in the same flow. Unlike the function being patched, bpf_skops_established() validates the skb before dereferencing it.

int main(void){ struct sockaddr_in sockaddr; struct tcp_ao_add tcp_ao; int sk; int one = 1;

memset(&sockaddr,'\0',sizeof(sockaddr));
memset(&tcp_ao,'\0',sizeof(tcp_ao));

sk = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP);

sockaddr.sin_family = AF_INET;

memcpy(tcp_ao.alg_name,"cmac(aes128)",12);
memcpy(tcp_ao.key,"ABCDEFGHABCDEFGH",16);
tcp_ao.keylen = 16;

memcpy(&tcp_ao.addr,&sockaddr,sizeof(sockaddr));

setsockopt(sk, IPPROTO_TCP, TCP_AO_ADD_KEY, &tcp_ao,
sizeof(tcp_ao));
setsockopt(sk, IPPROTO_TCP, TCP_REPAIR, &one, sizeof(one));

sockaddr.sin_family = AF_INET;
sockaddr.sin_port = htobe16(123);

inet_aton("127.0.0.1", &sockaddr.sin_addr);

connect(sk,(struct sockaddr *)&sockaddr,sizeof(sockaddr));

return 0; }

$ gcc tcp-ao-nullptr.c -o tcp-ao-nullptr -Wall $ unshare -Urn

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
