Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: do not write to msg_get_inq in callee

NULL pointer dereference fix.

msg_get_inq is an input field from caller to callee. Don't set it in the callee, as the caller may not clear it on struct reuse.

This is a kernel-internal variant of msghdr only, and the only user does reinitialize the field. So this is not critical for that reason. But it is more robust to avoid the write, and slightly simpler code. And it fixes a bug, see below.

Callers set msg_get_inq to request the input queue length to be returned in msg_inq. This is equivalent to but independent from the SO_INQ request to return that same info as a cmsg (tp->recvmsg_inq). To reduce branching in the hot path the second also sets the msg_inq. That is WAI.

This is a fix to commit 4d1442979e4a ("af_unix: don't post cmsg for SO_INQ unless explicitly asked for"), which fixed the inverse.

Also avoid NULL pointer dereference in unix_stream_read_generic if state->msg is NULL and msg->msg_get_inq is written. A NULL state->msg can happen when splicing as of commit 2b514574f7e8 ("net: af_unix: implement splice for stream af_unix sockets").

Also collapse two branches using a bitwise or.

Adobe Premiere Pro 15.4.1 (and earlier) is affected by a Null pointer dereference vulnerability when parsing a specially crafted file. An unauthenticated attacker could leverage this vulnerability to achieve an application denial-of-service in the context of the current user. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction in that a victim must open a malicious file.

GHSA-3CJQ-W2M7-3294

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-07-09 12:31 – Updated: 2025-11-19 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

btrfs: fix invalid inode pointer dereferences during log replay

In a few places where we call read_one_inode(), if we get a NULL pointer we end up jumping into an error path, or fallthrough in case of __add_inode_ref(), where we then do something like this:

iput(&inode->vfs_inode);

which results in an invalid inode pointer that triggers an invalid memory access, resulting in a crash.

Fix this by making sure we don't do such dereferences.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: hisi_sas: Fix NULL pointer exception during user_scan()

user_scan() invokes updated sas_user_scan() for channel 0, and if successful, iteratively scans remaining channels (1 to shost->max_channel) via scsi_scan_host_selected() in commit 37c4e72b0651 ("scsi: Fix sas_user_scan() to handle wildcard and multi-channel scans"). However, hisi_sas supports only one channel, and the current value of max_channel is 1. sas_user_scan() for channel 1 will trigger the following NULL pointer exception:

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.
