CWE-416
AllowedUse After Free
Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
9811 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-13 01:01 – Updated: 2022-05-13 01:01A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the JavaScript engine of Foxit Software's Foxit PDF Reader version 9.1.0.5096. A use-after-free condition can occur when accessing the Creator property of the this.info object. An attacker needs to trick the user to open the malicious file to trigger this vulnerability. If the browser plugin extension is enabled, visiting a malicious site can also trigger the vulnerability.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-11-27 12:31 – Updated: 2025-11-04 00:32In the src/libs/zbxembed/browser.c file, the es_browser_ctor method retrieves a heap pointer from the Duktape JavaScript engine. This heap pointer is subsequently utilized by the browser_push_error method in the src/libs/zbxembed/browser_error.c file. Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-12-27 15:31 – Updated: 2026-07-14 15:31In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
block: fix uaf for flush rq while iterating tags
blk_mq_clear_flush_rq_mapping() is not called during scsi probe, by checking blk_queue_init_done(). However, QUEUE_FLAG_INIT_DONE is cleared in del_gendisk by commit aec89dc5d421 ("block: keep q_usage_counter in atomic mode after del_gendisk"), hence for disk like scsi, following blk_mq_destroy_queue() will not clear flush rq from tags->rqs[] as well, cause following uaf that is found by our syzkaller for v6.6:

GHSA-XQJR-37F7-78RR
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-07-12 15:31 – Updated: 2025-11-04 00:30In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
dmaengine: idxd: Fix possible Use-After-Free in irq_process_work_list
Use list_for_each_entry_safe() to allow iterating through the list and deleting the entry in the iteration process. The descriptor is freed via idxd_desc_complete() and there's a slight chance may cause issue for the list iterator when the descriptor is reused by another thread without it being deleted from the list.

GHSA-XQQ8-XC8F-F7C4
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-02-27 21:32 – Updated: 2025-02-27 21:32In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ath11k: free peer for station when disconnect from AP for QCA6390/WCN6855
Commit b4a0f54156ac ("ath11k: move peer delete after vdev stop of station for QCA6390 and WCN6855") is to fix firmware crash by changing the WMI command sequence, but actually skip all the peer delete operation, then it lead commit 58595c9874c6 ("ath11k: Fixing dangling pointer issue upon peer delete failure") not take effect, and then happened a use-after-free warning from KASAN. because the peer->sta is not set to NULL and then used later.
Change to only skip the WMI_PEER_DELETE_CMDID for QCA6390/WCN6855.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-04-17 12:32 – Updated: 2026-05-12 12:31In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
RDMA/srpt: Do not register event handler until srpt device is fully setup
Upon rare occasions, KASAN reports a use-after-free Write in srpt_refresh_port().
This seems to be because an event handler is registered before the srpt device is fully setup and a race condition upon error may leave a partially setup event handler in place.
Instead, only register the event handler after srpt device initialization is complete.

Mitigation
Strategy: Language Selection
Choose a language that provides automatic memory management.
Mitigation
Strategy: Attack Surface Reduction
When freeing pointers, be sure to set them to NULL once they are freed. However, the utilization of multiple or complex data structures may lower the usefulness of this strategy.
No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
