CWE-416
AllowedUse After Free
Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
9821 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

RDMA/hns: Fix Use-After-Free of rsv_qp on HIP08
Currently rsv_qp is freed before ib_unregister_device() is called on HIP08. During the time interval, users can still dereg MR and rsv_qp will be used in this process, leading to a UAF. Move the release of rsv_qp after calling ib_unregister_device() to fix it.

GHSA-QJ49-7RGR-PFMQ
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-12-27 15:31 – Updated: 2025-05-02 09:30In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: fix NULL ptr deref in crypto_aead_setkey()
Neither SMB3.0 or SMB3.02 supports encryption negotiate context, so when SMB2_GLOBAL_CAP_ENCRYPTION flag is set in the negotiate response, the client uses AES-128-CCM as the default cipher. See MS-SMB2 3.3.5.4.
Commit b0abcd65ec54 ("smb: client: fix UAF in async decryption") added a @server->cipher_type check to conditionally call smb3_crypto_aead_allocate(), but that check would always be false as @server->cipher_type is unset for SMB3.02.
Fix the following KASAN splat by setting @server->cipher_type for SMB3.02 as well.
mount.cifs //srv/share /mnt -o vers=3.02,seal,...

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-05-03 03:31 – Updated: 2024-05-03 03:31Foxit PDF Reader Annotation Use-After-Free Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Foxit PDF Reader. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the handling of Annotation objects. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-21902.

Mitigation
Strategy: Language Selection
Choose a language that provides automatic memory management.
Mitigation
Strategy: Attack Surface Reduction
When freeing pointers, be sure to set them to NULL once they are freed. However, the utilization of multiple or complex data structures may lower the usefulness of this strategy.
No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
