CWE-416
AllowedUse After Free
Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
9821 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

GHSA-3C7W-PF2P-JWM8
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-01-25 15:30 – Updated: 2026-07-14 15:31In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ipv6: Fix use-after-free in inet6_addr_del().
syzbot reported use-after-free of inet6_ifaddr in inet6_addr_del(). [0]
The cited commit accidentally moved ipv6_del_addr() for mngtmpaddr before reading its ifp->flags for temporary addresses in inet6_addr_del().
Let's move ipv6_del_addr() down to fix the UAF.

GHSA-3CF5-6MRM-J6Q3
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-01 15:30 – Updated: 2026-05-03 09:33In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usb: usbtmc: Flush anchored URBs in usbtmc_release
When calling usbtmc_release, pending anchored URBs must be flushed or killed to prevent use-after-free errors (e.g. in the HCD giveback path). Call usbtmc_draw_down() to allow anchored URBs to be completed.

Mitigation
Strategy: Language Selection
Choose a language that provides automatic memory management.
Mitigation
Strategy: Attack Surface Reduction
When freeing pointers, be sure to set them to NULL once they are freed. However, the utilization of multiple or complex data structures may lower the usefulness of this strategy.
No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
