CVE-2025-9900 — Libtiff: libtiff write-what-where

Affected: libtiff, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extended Lifecycle Support, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 Advanced Update Support, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Advanced Mission Critical Update Support, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Extended Update Support Long-Life Add-On, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 Advanced Mission Critical Update Support, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 Telecommunications Update Service, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 Update Services for SAP Solutions and 10 more

A flaw was found in Libtiff. This vulnerability is a "write-what-where" condition, triggered when the library processes a specially crafted TIFF image file.

By providing an abnormally large image height value in the file's metadata, an attacker can trick the library into writing attacker-controlled color data to an arbitrary memory location. This memory corruption can be exploited to cause a denial of service (application crash) or to achieve arbitrary code execution with the permissions of the user.

Xudong Cao and Yuqing Zhang discovered that LibTIFF incorrectly handled
memory when parsing malformed TIFF images. An attacker could possibly use
this issue to cause LibTIFF to crash, resulting in a denial of service.

Xudong Cao and Yuqing Zhang discovered that LibTIFF incorrectly handled
memory when parsing malformed TIFF image headers. An attacker could
possibly use this issue to cause LibTIFF to leak memory, resulting in a
denial of service. (CVE-2025-9165)

It was discovered that LibTIFF incorrectly handled memory when parsing
malformed TIFF image metadata. An attacker could possibly use this issue to
cause a denial of service, obtain sensitive information, or execute
arbitrary code. (CVE-2025-9900)
